portfolio: development of monkeyBot - a brachiating robot
client: Kevin Lynch, Northwestern University
the monkeyBot is a two-link - single actuator -prototype brachiating robot designed to climb along vertical walls. It attaches to the wall surface using electromagnets at the end of each link. These electromagnets were custom designed by kinea to allow the device to pivot about the attachment point. A combination of swinging the links and alternating the electromagnets allows the robot to translate along the wall.
this device is being used at the Northwestern University's
laboratory for intelligent mechanical systems for research purposes.
